The Very Reverend Robert Jeffrey (1935-2017) was a churchman, author and translator. After graduating from King’s College London he served as curate of St. Andrew’s Church, Grangetown, followed by a curacy at St Mary’s Church in Barnes. He spent much of his life in parish ministry, alongside roles in the British Council of Churches and the Missionary and Ecumenical Council. In 1978 he was appointed Archdeacon of Salop, and eleven years later, Dean of Worcester: during his time at Worcester he was integral to the reinvigoration of the cathedral’s built environment. In 1995 he left Worcester for a position as Sub-Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. He published eleven books, mainly on the life of the Church. He is also known for his Penguin Classics translation of Thomas á Kempis’s Imitation of Christ (2013).
Jeffrey’s personal and research papers were deposited at Gladstone’s Library after his death in 2017.
