Friends of Gladstone’s Library Visit to the Portico Library, Manchester - Wednesday March 18

Following the success of this event last year, we have organised a second visit to the Portico Library and Gallery in Manchester for Friends of Gladstone’s Library.

The Portico’s Grade II listed building dates from 1806 and, like Gladstone’s Library, is home to a wonderful collection of mainly 19th century books.

This is a marvellous opportunity to experience this members-only library in the company of some of your fellow Friends.

As numbers are limited, you are advised to book as soon as possible in order to secure your place.

A minibus will leave Gladstone’s Library on Wednesday, March 18 at 9.30am.

On arrival at the Portico, tea/coffee and homemade cake will be served prior to a talk about the history of the building and its collections and a tour of the Gallery and Reading Room.

Lunch will be available at the Portico but must be pre-booked (menus will be provided in advance).

After lunch, you are welcome to remain at the Portico or to take a short stroll down Mosley Street to Manchester City Art Gallery.

We will depart from the Portico Library at 3pm.

The cost is £25 per person to include return transport, refreshments on arrival and the talk/tour.

This must be paid at time of booking.

Payment for lunch should be made separately on the day.

To secure your place, please contact Annette Lewis on 01244 532350 or email [email protected]

When booking, please remember to quote your Friends card number and to state whether you require lunch.
