In this practical writing workshop, poet Ian Parks will suggest ways in which stories can be told through poetry. Arrive with a blank page and go home with a narrative poem or two.

Ian Parks’s first collection of poems was published in 1986 and received a Yorkshire Arts Award. Ian has held several residencies and has taught creative writing at the universities of Sheffield, Hull, Oxford and Leeds. In 1994 he received a Travelling Fellowship to the United States and in 1996 was recognised as one of the National Poetry Society’s New Poets. Ian’s collections of poems include Shell Island, The Landing Stage, Love Poems 1979-2009 and The Exile’s House. His poems have appeared regularly in publications including The Liberal, Poetry Review, The Observer and The Sunday Times and have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Ian is the editor of Versions of the North: Contemporary Yorkshire Poetry and was Writing Fellow at De Montfort University, Leicester 2012-14.
