A Masterclass with Glen James Brown

The Strongest Voice: Writing Vivid, Memorable Characters. A Masterclass with Glen James Brown
Saturday 23rd April from 10am to 3pm.

Maybe you’re just starting out with a promising idea for a story, but you don’t know where to start. Or perhaps you can picture your lead character in your head, but can’t give them a voice? Join Glen James Brown in this masterclass dedicated to developing every aspect of character, from physicality to personal history. With writing exercises throughout, participants will learn to describe their characters and explore how they think and feel, before getting them interacting with others. Dialogue and action combined will result in promising characters that you can continue at home.

Glen James Brown was born in County Durham in 1982 and studied English at Leeds Beckett University before graduating with distinction from an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Chichester. Ironopolis is his first novel; it was shortlisted for the 2020 Portico Prize as well as the 2019 Orwell Prize for Political Fiction. He lives in Manchester and is currently working on his second novel.
