We are pleased to inform you that we are now open for bookings for Founder’s Day.
We are delighted to welcome back to the Library The Rt Revd. Dr Rowan Williams. Dr Williams’ talk, ‘Divine Learning and Human Learning: Education and Self-Knowledge’ will focus on Gladstone’s commitment to the ideal of “divine learning” as an element in education.
Alongside the talk there will be various exhibitions, including a chance to see the beautiful medieval illustrated Gospel given to Gladstone as a thank you for his support by the people of Armenia, together with the first Welsh Bible printed in Wales. There will also be the founding documents for the Library on display together with photographs and other archival material. Our Librarian Isobel and Archivist Alex will be on hand to answer any questions. You can then spend time perusing our ‘Women of Gladstone’s Library’ display and have the opportunity to chat with our two Engagement and Learning officers about their work with over 500 young people over the past 8 months.
Come and stay for 2 nights at the Library, beginning with evening dinner on the Wednesday 9th July. After breakfast on Thursday (10th July), you will have an exclusive opportunity to view the Exhibitions. A light lunch follows, after which you can take your seat for the talk. In the evening you will join our Warden and Dr Williams for a 3 course dinner, after which there will be a conversation between the two of them and a chance for you to join in! Departure is after breakfast on the Friday (11th July).
We are offering this package to Friends of the Library only until the end of May. Numbers are limited so do book early.
Please note, tickets cannot be refunded or used for another event if ticketholders are unable to attend. All ticket purchases support us to care for the Library building and the collections it holds. As a charity, Gladstone’s Library receives no government funding, so all purchases, Gift Aid and donations, are deeply appreciated.
Please note that tickets for this event are e-tickets. Book online and have your ticket emailed directly to you.
A print and collect service is available to those without access to email facilities for a small charge to cover our admin costs. Call 01244 532350 or email [email protected] for more information. Printed tickets will be available to collect from Reception before the event.
