If you are looking for a stay with a difference, look no further; we pride ourselves in offering the best service for all our visitors in a truly unique setting.
We have 26 boutique style bedrooms, all unique in their own way, most with en suite facilities.
As a resident you have extended use of the Reading Rooms from 9am - 10pm (9am - 5pm for the general public).
Library books may be taken away to your bedroom, however books from the Gladstone Foundation Collection must not be removed from the Reading Rooms.
We also have our very own bistro 'Food for Thought' serving breakfast (8am – 9am Monday – Friday and from 8.30am until 9.30am on Saturday and Sunday), lunch (12 noon - 2pm) and evening meal (6.45pm - 7.15pm).
Gladstone’s Library is located in a prime spot, just eight miles from the famous ‘walled city’ of Chester and on the doorstep of the wonderful Welsh countryside with lots of places to visit including the historic market town of Mold, St Winefride’s Well (Holywell),the coastal town of Llandudno and Snowdonia (about an hour and a half’s drive).
Hawarden is a charming Welsh village, with an eclectic range of shops including a Post Office and general store, hairdressers, chemist and the award winning Hawarden Estate Farm Shop which is an attraction in itself – an enjoyable place to discover and purchase fresh produce.
The farm shop is owned and ran by the Gladstone family.
The Gladstone Estate also offers a picturesque countryside – perfect for long walks and enjoying nature. Permits are available to library guests to walk in the woods around Hawarden Castle – as this is private land we do recommend that you get a permit from reception before venturing too far.
The Glynne Arms, also owned by the Gladstone family, is a favourite for locals and an impressive place for visitors to Hawarden. Unique in its décor - the rooms are decorated with books and local historical trinkets that instantly make you feel part of the wonderful surroundings.
Another favourite restaurant is the Shared Olive which offers Mediterranean and tapas dishes in a contemporary and relaxed atmosphere.

"Great Place to read, write and relax.
An absolutely perfect place for my needs, great library and facilities, comfy bed and room, great food and good conversations with other guests."
I stayed five nights last week with a friend and we were both charmed by it. As a keen Victorian, I was delighted to stay in a John Douglas building brought up to modern standards."
