Leaving a gift to Gladstone’s Library in your Will
Benjamin Franklin famously said that nothing in this world is certain “except death and taxes.” It’s impossible to avoid the former and illegal to avoid the latter. Most of us would prefer to avoid thinking about making a Will but it is, in fact, a very sensible thing to do as it allows us to give final expression to the things that really matter – the people and causes that are most important in our lives.
Drafting a Will – or adding a codicil to an existing one - is not particularly complicated but we would advise that you seek the help of a solicitor and/or financial adviser to make sure that your wishes are expressed and carried out correctly. Once you have made a Will, it is a good idea to review it from to time especially if there has been a change in your circumstances such as the birth of a child or grandchild, divorce or remarriage.
Many people already support us on a regular basis by being a Friend of Gladstone’s Library. Leaving a gift in your Will is an additional way of supporting our work that does not affect your day-to-day financial situation. Such gifts require relatively little administration and are an important tool in helping us plan ahead.
