Naomi Alderman

Naomi Alderman’s first novel Disobedience was published in 2006 and won the Orange Prize for New Writers. In 2007, she was named Sunday Times’ Young Writer of the Year and one of Waterstone’s 25 Writers for the Future. Penguin published her second novel The Lessons in April 2010. Naomi also writes online computer games and was lead writer on the BAFTA-shortlisted alternate reality game Perplex City.

In 2008, she wrote Alice in Storyland for Penguin's online project We Tell Stories. In 2009, she was shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Award. She broadcasts for Radio 3 and Radio 4, has appeared on numerous panels, spoken at literary festivals and taught masterclasses in creative writing at many different institutions.

Naomi has published prize-winning short fiction in Prospect, Woman and Home and Sunday Express and is a columnist for the Guardian. Earlier this year, she published a Doctor Who novel for the BBC. Doctor Who: Borrowed Time centred on bankers' behaviour before the financial crisis, includes an explanation of compound interest for children using cake and was written under the almost-impenetrable pseudonym of Naomi A Alderman. During the residency, Naomi will be working on her new novel for Penguin which is set in Roman-occupied Judea.
